The page has two editors for one equation: the visual field at the top and the raw LaTeX pane below it. Edit
either one and the other updates to match. The preview is always typeset from the raw LaTeX.
Typing in the visual field
/ starts a fraction, ^ a superscript and _ a subscript. A backslash command such as \sqrt or \alpha turns into its symbol when you press Space or Enter. The arrow keys and Tab move
the caret between boxes.
Several lines and matrices
Enter, or the ↵ Row button, starts a new line. Inside a matrix, a cases block or an aligned block, Enter adds a row and ⇥ Col adds a column. The Multi-line tab in the symbol drawer inserts matrices and
blocks, and has buttons that remove the row or column the caret is in.
If you type \\ in the raw LaTeX pane without a \begin{}
around it, the preview wraps the lines in aligned, or in gathered when there is no &. Your text in the pane stays
as you wrote it.
Limits and chemistry
The Calculus tab has buttons for a plain limit and for the one-sided limits x → a⁺
and x → a⁻. Tab jumps to the next empty box.
The Chemistry tab has reaction arrows, state symbols, charges and isotopes. The Ab
button switches element symbols to upright letters; click it again to switch back. A whole reaction can also
be written in mhchem notation, for example \ce{2H2 + O2 -> 2H2O}. The visual field
displays \ce{} but cannot edit inside it, so change the formula in the raw LaTeX
pane.
What the visual field can't hold
\tag, \label and top-level align or equation environments only work in the raw LaTeX
pane. While the source contains one of them, the visual field is dimmed and locked. Its content is kept.

Exports
SVG files are vector paths taken from the typesetter. They scale to any size, and the computer that opens
them does not need any maths fonts. PNG files are drawn from the same vector at the density picked in the
export bar (1× to 4×), on the backdrop selected above the preview.
Differences between the two editors
The visual field (MathLive) and the renderer (MathJax) are separate programs, and each supports a slightly
different set of LaTeX. Custom macros and less common packages may change or disappear when they pass through
the visual field. When the two disagree, the raw LaTeX pane is what gets rendered and exported.
